How To Catch A Pokemon
Catching a Pokemon in Pokemon Platinum or in any Pokemon game for that matter is a rather simple process that does not take much effort. Some Pokemon are harder to catch that others, there are various methods and certain pokeballs that work better on certain Pokemon. In this tutorial you will learn how to catch a Pokemon. I will focus on several methods.
In order to catch a Pokemon the first thing you have to do is make sure you have a Pokemon that can battle in the area of grass your walking in without over killing your Pokemon. For example don’t walk into an area of grass that has lv 6 pokemon if you have a level 33 Monferno, your just asking for a fail at catching any of the wild Pokemon.
Simply put to begin just walk into some tall grass and you will encounter a Pokemon, hopefully one that you actually want to catch. In this example I just ran into a level 4 male Budew.
My current Pokemon that have with me is a level 8 Starly, AKA Razor Wing. As you can see in the Screenshot below my Pokemon does not have that much health. Luckily for me Budew is rather weak, and won’t be doing any damage before I capture it. Usually it is a better idea to go into a battle with full health.
The first thing I do is choose an attack that will wound the wild pokemon but not cause it to faint. I hit with a quick attack and lower it’s health by a significant ammount. You can choose to attempt to catch a Pokemon at full health, or by getting in down in the read health range, your choice. The less health the better.
After getting the Pokemon to a weak enough level you can throw a Pokeball at the Pokemon, which is located in your bag in the Pokeball section. After you throw the ball it the Pokemon will go inside and the ball will wobble, it will shake a bit, if it is not succesfully caught it will break out. Luckily for me Budew was caught with ease.
Now that the pokemon has been caught it will be added to your pokedex if it has never been caught before. There you will learn some basic information about that Pokemon.
After catching the pokemon you will be asked if you would like to give it a nickname.
And that’s basically all there is to it, that is how you catch a Pokemon. As I said earlier there are several methods. Over time we will create other tutorials on how to catch certain pokemon, and how to catch pokemon using status effect moves, and unique pokeballs.
